Ravenel is where Charleston stops being a city and starts being the Lowcountry proper. The Ravenel pattern: the front five acres are kept — house, yard, pasture — and the back fifteen have gone their own way. Reclaiming that back ground is the highest-value work on the property. A mulching pass opens it, a reclaim turns old field back to field, and suddenly the horses have another paddock, the garden has sun, and the property line is a line again.
Horse people get special honesty from us: reclaimed ground returns to turnout use once it settles, old wire hiding in the brush is the hazard we hunt for on every walk, and we will tell you plainly which corners should wait on a dry season rather than rut up your pasture proving a point.

The wet edge is the local judgment call. Ground near the Caw Caw and the river bottoms holds water much of the year; tracked equipment handles the soft margins, and the truly saturated bottoms get routed around or scheduled to the dry months. Knowing the difference is the local part of local work.
