Edisto is the Lowcountry with the volume turned up: live-oak tunnels over Highway 174, tomato fields against tidal creek, and some of the oldest family land in South Carolina running from marsh to pine flat. Nobody needs convincing about the oaks on Edisto — they are the island’s identity, and several are older than the state. Clearing here means working beneath them: grinding the palmetto scrub and privet out of the midstory, keeping machines respectful of root flares, and leaving a mulched floor that protects the ground the trees stand in.
The payoff is dramatic on an island lot: sight lines open from lane to creek, the moss-hung trunks stand clear, and a parcel that felt like a wall becomes the postcard it was underneath the whole time.
Edisto’s interior is quietly serious deer ground — mixed pine and hardwood over old field lines, bordered by marsh that funnels movement beautifully.
